Last Saturday’s event was a single stroke sponsored by Stanthorpe Pharmacies, appreciation to Michael Lane for the day. Interesting aspect to the day’s competition was that all played off artificial turf and mats to try and protect the fairways as much as possible.
This method proved very suitable for Eric McLellan who had an excellent game, recording a score of 84 off the stick for nett 66 to win the day. Eric indicated that his score could have been 5 or 6 shots better except for a bit of bad luck. The handicapper has heeded this and no doubt will act accordingly. Ricky Chapman also found the conditions to his liking, securing runner up with nett 70.
The ladies event needed a countback before Madeline Jarman was awarded first place with Linda Kelly claiming runner up. Both players returned nett 73 for their rounds.
Pin shots went the way of N. Canniffe (visitor) at 3, Len Leigh at 12 and Ricky Chapman at 17. Lyn Ludlow had best approach at the ladies’ 12th hole and Lorraine Evans at 17. Pro-pins were won by Matt Waterworth at 1/10, Darryl Boekholt at 5/14 and Clay Koch (visitor) at 9/18.
In the run men’s rundown, a ball to scores of nett 72 and better and nett 75 and better for the ladies.
This event also marked the end of the year long ‘Golfer of the Year’ competitions for men and ladies. Points are awarded to competitors in single events through the year, the more events played and the better the results add to the players final total in both a men’s and a ladies competition.
This year, the men’s event has ‘Powercat’ as the major sponsor and the ladies section sees ‘Gracious Giving’ continuing with their involvement in this event. The Club is very thankful to both for their much appreciated sponsorship. Both the men’s winner and the ladies’ winner will be announced at the Club’s Xmas party which is after golf on Saturday 7 December, the monthly medal day.
Next Saturday is the Delaney Family golf day, a medley 4BBB stableford. First held in remembrance of Kev Delaney, a keen golfer and mentor to many junior golfers over many years, the event has become a very popular one among members and we look forward to greeting members and friends of the Delaney family on this day. There will be a shot gun start at 11.45 am with registration by 11.25 am giving the starter time to allocate tee positions.
