The Stanthorpe Golf Club held their Open carnival last weekend, two days of golf starting with a 4BBB on Saturday followed by single events on Sunday, stroke for men and stableford for ladies. Once again, the club thanks the sponsors of the carnival, Maddies Gift Gallery of Stanthorpe, City Golf Club in Toowoomba and Tenterfield Golf Club, all of whom have been ongoing sponsors of the carnival over many years now.
Appreciation also to the club members and the visitors for supporting the event. As well as locals, visitors came from City Golf, Tenterfield Golf Club, Warwick Golf Club and Inglewood Golf Club. The disappointing factor of the weekend was the inclement weather prior to and during the carnival which did have a negative result on both the numbers and the scores.
Saturday’s 4BBB resulted in a win to the Burgess family with David and son, Matt, combining to return 43 points, a great result considering the conditions. Matt has also passed father, David in the AGU handicap stakes, now has him by one point. Runner up to the team of Richard Reardon and David Gianini (Tenterfield) with 42 points on a countback.
In the mixed teams event, Linda Kelly played an excellent round and with partner, Aaron Simmers, collected the winner’s prize. Runner up to Tod Beckett and Lisa Stuart who were on point behind.
Sunday single events were a stableford for the ladies with Nikki Waterworth (35 points) the overall winner and Lyn Ludlow (29 points) runner up. Div 1 went to Lisa Stuart, with runner up to Marie Cook. Div 2 went to Margie Locke with Helen Jones taking runner up.
The men’s stroke event was won by David Reeves who had the lowest gross score of 75, Darryl Boekholt having overall best nett of 69. Best gross score in grades were David Burgess in A grade, Richard Reardon in B grade and Max Hunter in C grade. Nett winners were Ivan Juriss (A grade), Andy Burgess (B grade) and Angelo Maugeri (C grade).
Apart from the poor weather, the carnival was successful for those who played and thanks must go to the volunteers, both inside and outside of the club house, and to the match Committee for all the hard work done.
Next Saturday is back to normal club competition with the Peirce Trophy on offer, a mixed 4BBB stableford event sponsored by the Peirce family. For other members without a partner, a 4BBB stableford event sponsored by David and Stephen of Favero Motors. Time sheet for the day is on the board at the club.
