Stanthorpe Golf Club finalised their championships last weekend with the final two rounds being played on Saturday and Sunday.
The men’s section resulted on Scott Constable claiming the ‘A’ grade event and with it, overall Club Champion. A great effort by Scott to win and to add to the previous two years he has claimed the title. ‘B’ grade winner was Tom Fittock who came from behind to claim his division. ‘C’ grade winner was Bruce Green who held off the chasers in a close finish.
Greg Fraser did enough to take the best nett score over four rounds. Nett winners in each grade were Mick O’Brien, Kev Rowling and Cal Smith. Other awards were won by John Green in the Vets division and Andrew Burgess collected the junior boy’s championship.
Marie Cook returned to competitive golf at Stanthorpe not long ago and has quickly got into stride, winning the ladies’ championship. Ladies’ captain, Annelle Batterham is the Div 2 Champion. Vet’s champion is LynetteLudlow and best netts to Neta Thouard in Div 1 and Helen Jones in Div 2.
Special thanks to Keith Jones for ensuring the greens were well groomed for the final day and to Richard Reardon who selected the pin positions. The ladies who played thought that the pin positions selected for the final day’s play were the best that they had seen.
All winners of the championships are congratulated for their achievement as are all players who competed and completed the four rounds of the event.
An individual stroke event was also held over each of the last two rounds. Saturday’s stroke event, sponsored by Chris Fittock, was won by Mick O’Brien in the men’s division and by Annelle Batterham in the ladies. Runner’s up were John Green and Lynette Ludlow.
Sunday’s final round was sponsored by Alan Kerr and Dale Minchenton. Barry Hughes had his best round of the championships and returned nett 68 to be the men’s winner. John Green collected another trophy for runner up with nett 70. The ladies event was won by Margie Locke with nett 77 and runner up to Neta Thouard with nett 80.
Appreciation to Chris, Alan and Dale for again sponsoring these events.
Now that the club single championships are complete, we revert to the normal Saturday competition with next Saturday being the end of month medley 4BBB stableford. The event will be sponsored by the Stanthorpe Community Bank and tee off with a shot gun start at 12.00 noon. The time sheet for the day is on the board.
