Stanthorpe golfers played a stableford event last Saturday with the day being sponsored by Jason Lawer. Jason was a junior golfer at the club and later went on to the senior ranks and very quickly lowered his handicap to become a very accomplished player. Great to see him back on the course, even for one round. The club thanks Jason for the sponsorship on the day.
Making the most of the improved conditions on the course was Stephen Kay who returned the best score of 40 points on the day to take top prize. His round included a few birdies which helped to his 76 for the round. Runner up was Len Leigh who was a couple back on 38 points. Interesting that the club’s ex-president and present president shared winner and runner up places.
In the ladies event, recent new member to the club, Christine Hood, returned an excellent score of 36 points to claim ladies first prize. Unfortunately, work commitments make it a little difficult for Christine to play in the competitions, but we hope to see more of her in the future. Runner up went to Lisa Stuart with a score of 30 points.
Pin shots were won by Jason Lawer at 3, Len Leigh at 12 and Ivan Juriss at 17. Ladies pins went to Nikki Waterworth at 3, Sandy Kay at 12 and Christine Hood at 17. Pro-pins collected by Keith Jones at 1/10, Scott Constable at 5/14 and Greg Fraser at 9/18. Birdies nest at 9 was not won.
As well as major prizes for the day, our sponsor, Jason, also provided meat and produce trays for a club raffle as well as quite a few golf balls used for an extended run down plus encouragement awards for both men and ladies. Recipients were Sandy Kay for the ladies and Mark McCosker for the gents. Not a good day for Mark.
Apart from the designated club run down, most players at the presentation were fortunate to walk away with a ball in hand. The proviso being that you had to be there to receive it.
Upcoming events include a stableford event on Australia Day, Wednesday 26 January starting with a shot gun start at 8.30 am with registration in by 8.00 am.
