Golfers at Stanthorpe played an individual stableford event last Saturday. The day sponsored by local travel group, HelloWorld, and the club thanks them for putting on the day. A very pleasant day weatherwise for the golfers and pleasing to report that there was a general improvement in scoring with a few golfers reclaiming some good form as well as some personal milestones being achieved.
A number of players managed to play to their handicap and none better than the men’s winner, Matt Waterworth, with a score of 40 points for the round. Matt’s round included an eagle 2 at the 14th hole with his second shot in the hole at the bottom of the cup. He also returned a gross score of 72, par for the round. Another good round from Stephen Kay with a return of 38 points to secure runner up.
Matt was not the only player to record an eagle on the day with Nathan Stibbard at the 6th and Scott Constable at the 11th doing likewise. Playing partners of Nathan Stibbard reported that his second shot onto the green at the par 5 6th hole was very close to going into the hole, just missed out on the albatross by a small margin.
To keep the winning in the family, Nikki Waterworth also returned to good form to claim first place with a round of 39 points in the ladies’ comp, one point less than Matt but again a welcome turn around in her game. Two points back with 37 points was ever improving Christine Hood to claim runner up.
Men’s pin shots were claimed by Alan ‘Accurate’ Kerr at 3, Mark Hendry at 12 and Matt Waterworth at 17. Lisa Stuart, who last week took all the ladies’ pin shots, managed to claim two this week, at 3 and 12. Mei Bell collected the pin at 17. Mick O’Brien had the best second shot at 1/10, Matt Waterworth with his eagle at 5/14 and Mark McCosker finished the pro-pin wins after he claimed 9/18.
The birdies nest at 14 was shared by Matt Waterworth, Scott Constable and Brendan McMillan, Men’s run down went to 36 points and ladies’ run down also on the same score.
