The predicted rain over Stanthorpe finally arrived in the afternoon and had a telling effect on the day’s golf. The morning players had by far the better conditions on the day with an overcast but dry morning and the afternoon players endured some heavy showers. None the less, better that the rain does come, we’re all happy for this.
Sponsors for the individual stableford event were club members, Mandy Benussi and Lyn Ludlow, who are thanked by the club for the prizes on the day.
The lady golfers, most of whom played in the afternoon session, found the rain a bit too much to continue play and called stumps after nine holes and decided to hold the trophies back to a future day, possibly on a Wednesday. Only one player managed to complete the 18 holes, Margie Locke, who teed off in the early morning session.
The men who played the early morning session had the best of the day with all players completing the round and with 36 points being a popular score, the countback came into play to find a winner. David Burgess had the best in this and was declared the winner of the day and so suppressing any bragging rights from other family members as to who is still best golfer in the family.
Jason Hatton also put a good round together returning a one over par of 73 for his round. Playing off a handicap of 1, this also gave him 36 points for runner up. All other score of 36 received a ball in the run down with Matt Burgess, Chris Binge and Greg Fraser being the recipients. Only one afternoon player managed to feature in the highlights, that being Greg Fraser who played the back nine in the rain.
