Stanthorpe golfers played a stroke event last Saturday 16 December, the day sponsored by local business, Dep’s Beautiful Nails and we thank them for again sponsoring a golf event at the club. The afternoon was quite hot and was interrupted by a heavy storm which saw most of the field heading for cover. The storm passed quickly and it was back to golf for all.
Mei Bell had the best score in the ladies’ event carding a nett par of 73 for her round. A very steady front nine followed by 2 under par for the back nine sealed the win. Runner up was Linda Kelly with a score of nett 80. As with the winner, Linda’s back nine was the better of the two nines.
Minor prizes for the ladies awarded to Neta Thouard and Filomena Silver for the run down with both players on nett 83.
The men’s event was a close finish with the best score of nett 69 from two players. The count back gave the win to Michael Thompson just edging out Matt Waterworth who settled for runner up. The winner had a par round of 72 off the stick, two nines of 36. Down the line honours went to Barry Jones and Brendon Barker both returning a score of nett 70.
Lucky recipients for pin shots went to Neat Thouard and Mei Bell for the ladies and Rodney Paye, Michael Thompson and Matt Waterworth for the men. Filomena Silver collected the ladies’ pro-pin and men’s pro-pins claimed by Michael Thompson (almost and eagle) at 1/10, Matt Burgess at 5/14 and Jarrod Irwin at 9/18.
Special encouragement awards (had to be there to win) handed out went to Viv Thouard for the men and for the ladies’, Helen Jones was located hiding under a table but could not be denied the honour.
For all golfers, the Boxing day ambrose event is almost on us and at last looking at the nomination sheet a few space available. Be quick to fill them if intending to play. Nominations must be made at the club.
Next Saturday 23 December, last event for golfers before Xmas with a 4BBB stableford being the event. The day will be sponsored by Dad’s Army (a group of four great gentlemen members of the club) with the day kicking off with a shot gun start at 12.00 noon. Time sheet is available on line.
