A stableford event was on the programme for Stanthorpe golfers last Saturday, kindly sponsored by Simon Shannon and the club thanks him for the day. The course is starting to dry out a little although there are still some very wet patches on some fairways.

In the men’s event, Richard Reardon made a return to the winners list after he returned 40 stableford points for his round. A very good front nine of 21 points was followed up with 19 points return for his score. A welcome change for him as he quite often conducts the presentation at the end of play and announces the winners, this time it was his name being called.

Two players managed to return a score of 37 points, tying for second place. The countback went in favour of Ivan Juriss for runner up over Max Smith who settled for the run down.

The ladies were slightly down on numbers from previous weeks, but the competition was still intense. Lorraine Evans rarely has a bad day at golf and steady play gave her a score of 32 points to win the event. Her front and back nines were identical with 16 points both times. Next best was Lyn Ludlow on a score of 29 points.

Pin shots went to Damien Anderson at 3, David Burgess at 12 and Barry Jones at 17. Jones’ tee shot at the long 17th hole was a very good one and ended very close to the pin. Ladies’ pins were claimed by Linda Kelly at 12 and Lyn Ludlow at 17. Pro-pins were won by Gary Kirby at 1/10, Matt Burgess at 5/14 and Tom Reeves at 9/18. At long last, the birdies nest was claimed by David Reeves and Mark McCosker who shared the spoils, the only two players who birdied the short par 3 hole.

The run down went to scores of 34 points and better.

The time sheet for the Black Toyota 3 ball ambrose is available at the club and intending players are urged to get their teams organised and nominations on the sheet sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. The time sheet for the Saturday event sponsored by Biz and Jeff Ihle should be available from Saturday.

Next Saturday is a 4BBB stableford sponsored by the RSL Sub Branch. The time sheet for this event is also on the board at the club. The event will start with a shot gun start at 12 noon with registration to be completed 20 minutes before hit off.
