An individual stableford event was held last Saturday at Stanthorpe, sponsored by Aqua Rural Supplies who have been great supporter of golf over the years and we thank them for their continued sponsorship.
Leading the field at the end of the day was Aaron Simmers who finally managed to put two nines together and return 43 points. His front nine of 20 points included one wash, zero points at the easiest hole on the course. The back nine sealed the deal with 23 points for the total. Best part of the day was taking the bet from the opposition. No doubt the handicapper will have a long look at this score.
Runner up was decided with a countback, giving Peter Gibney the win over Hayden Smith who settled for a run down. Both players recorded 40 points for the round. Also featuring in the run down were Len Leigh (38), Rod Werner (37), Rino Piovesan ( 36) and Stephen Kay (35).
Sandra Ellis has continued to improve since returning to competitive golf, winning the ladies event with a score of 35 points. A very steady front nine of 19 points which included a zero point score at the 6th hole after 10 hits. Back nine of 16 points was enough to ensure the win.
Trish Fittock was next best with 34 points to take runner up prize, even though this score could have been better except for a zero points recorded at the 3rd hole. The ladies run down went to Linda Kelly with 33 points.
Included in the playing field was club ex-junior player, Hannah Reeves. Hannah returned a score of 32 points, not a bad effort considering she has not played at Stanthorpe for a number of years. Her first hole was a birdie and she completed the front nine with 38 strokes. Back nine in 37 for a round of 75 playing off a handicap of plus one.
Next weekend is a full weekend of golf with a charity day to be held on Sunday and an individual stroke on Saturday. Saturday’s stroke round is the Laurie Newley Memorial Day and is sponsored by the Newley family. Tee off from 11.00 am and the time sheet is at the club.
