Last Saturday’s golf competition played at Stanthorpe was a stroke event and the second of three rounds played for the Pike Trophy. The day was sponsored by club members, Stephen and Sandy Kay and they are thanked for putting on the day.
Keith Jones returned to the fairways after some health issues which kept him out of the game for the last month. The break did him no harm as he returned the best score of the day, nett 69, to win the men’s event. The layoff appears to have been very beneficial for Keith. Runner up went to Matt Burgess with a nett 71.
The ladies event was won by Fiona Kelly after she returned a nett 70 and leaving a big space to runner up, Neta Thouard on nett 78 after a countback with Nikki Waterworth also on nett 78. Nikki settled for the run down.
Men’s pin shots were won by Darryl Boekholt at 3, Len Leigh at 12 and David Reeves at 17. Lisa Stuart claimed two pins for the ladies, 12 and 17 with 3 not taken. Pro-pins went to Scott Constable at 1/10 and 5/14 and Matt Burgess at 9/18.
Men’s run down went to nett 73 and ladies’ to nett 80.
The final round for the Pike Trophy is scheduled for next Saturday and a chance for the rest to stake some claim on the title. The last few years have shown that it is best to have the score on the board early and let the rest chase.
For the ladies, Fiona Kelly and Christine Hood appear to be in good position but the last round could come into play. In the men’s division, there are around nine players who have posted a fairly good score and can use the last round to consolidate their position as only two of the three rounds will count toward the end result.
Next Sunday 27 March is the club’s mixed foursomes championships and will commence at 9.30 am after Sporters tee off. A good number of names on the board already but still space for any pair not yet nominated.
Next Saturday is a stroke event, the third and final round for the Pike Trophy, The sponsor for the day is Mark McCosker and the Nuffield Cup is also on offer for the single event.
