Golfers at Stanthorpe played a stroke event on the second Saturday of March, the competition also being the second of three rounds for the club’s Pike Trophy. Appreciation is extended to Steve and Sandy Kay who sponsored the day and provided the trophies. A good field turned out for the day and included API social golfers in town for the weekend. The forecast of rain on the day did not eventuate with all competitors completing their round.
The men’s event saw some good results being returned, none better than from Josh Anderson who finished with a nett 67 to take the honours for the day. Although only new to competition golf, Josh has been playing socially for some time and the result is an indication of how well he strikes the ball. Junior member, Hamish Adam, continued his good form to take runner up after a countback with Nat Marano, both players on nett 68.
The ladies event was a win to Nikki Waterworth who was four shots clear of the field on nett 74, very consistent, same score as last week. Runner up was Helen Jones in with nett 78.
Men’s pin shots were claimed by the winner, Josh Anderson at 3, Richard Reardon at 12 and Matt Burgess at 17. Ladies pin at 3 was not claimed and Jennifer Sparkes collected at 12 and ladies winner Nikki had best at 17. Pro-pins went to Simon Shannon at 1/10, Scott Constable at 5/14 and Mark Hendry at 9/18. The birdies nest at hole 2 was not won.
In the run down, a ball to Nat Marano (68), Max Hunter (69), Doug Henderson (69) for the men and Lyn Ludlow and Jennifer Sparkes both with nett 79 for the ladies.
The final and third round for the Pike Trophy will be played next Saturday. Although played over three rounds, only the best two rounds will be used to find a winner. As in previous years, those players who have a good score on the board already are most likely to take the honours. For those players not up the top already, one more round to figure in the final result.
Saturday 18 March will also be a stroke round, the final for the Pike Trophy. Sponsor for the day is club member, Mark McCosker, who is also offering the Nuffield Cup for the winner. Time sheet for the event is on the board.
