It was monthly medal day at Stanthorpe last Saturday, a stroke event which was sponsored by club member, Richard Reardon and the club thanks him for the day. The course was in great shape with the fairways still retaining some of the moisture from the recent rains and the greens are getting back to normal after coring.
Bragging rights in the Burgess family might be a discussion point after junior golfer, Andrew Burgess, returned the best score of the day to win the medal for April. His nett 63 was the best on the day. Andrew has had some good rounds of late but this one was clearly his best and sees him drop a few shots from his handicap.
Ivan Juriss found driving his cart around the course is better than walking as he collected runner up prize with a score of nett 67. In previous months, this could have been a winning score. Best gross score on the day was from Matt Waterworth with 70 for the round, two under par on the day. Putting honours were claimed by Wes Smith who needed 26 putts for the round.
In the run down, Matt Waterworth (nett 69), Stephen Kay (70) and Len Leigh (70) each collected a prize.
The ladies’ event resulted in a win to Kay Webb with nett 76. Kay has featured in the run downs in the last few weeks but went one better to claim the victory on the day. Two shots back on nett 78, Helen Jones, to collect the runner up for the day.
Nikki Waterworth made it a family double to have the best gross score for the ladies, 95 for the 18 holes. Best putting for the ladies was claimed by Lorraine Evans, needing 29 putts for the round. Nikki Waterworth, Linda Kelly and Trish Fittock finished with nett 80’s to collect in the run down.
Upcoming event is the Black Toyota 3 person ambrose which is due to be played on Sunday 2 May following Saturday’s medley stableford. This weekend of golf has proved very popular over the years and attracts a good number of visitors. The time sheet has been posted at the club and members are advised to get their teams nominated and entered early to secure a spot.
Next Saturday’s event is an individual stableford and sponsors for the day are club members, Mandy Benussi and Lynette Ludlow. The time sheet for this event is also on the board at the club.
