What an extraordinary day’s play was held at Stanthorpe on Saturday; wind, rain – perfect! Thunder … hmm. Lightening? And we headed for the Club house. The Vice Captain had to make a painful call and the day’s play was abandoned but fortunately we had all passed the halfway mark and so could still have a Nine-hole competition.

Saturday was one of the standout days in the SGC calendar as it was the famous M & D Auto Day. Mick and Judy Spiller make it such a fun day for everyone. Really good prizes and lots of them. Adding to the day is the presence of various supply company representatives. M & D Auto have been supporting the Golf Club for years, but the bigger news is that they have been supporting the mechanical industry on the Granite Belt for 40 years! Congratulations M&D Auto! Little wonder that a stacked field of 64 took to the Links to play a Two Ball Ambrose.

Congratulations to the men’s winners Jason Bacon and Brendan Barker. They had a sensational 18 holes being 10 under par (including two eagles) and the first 9 holes also were a standout performance off a very low handicap. Two visitors, Dusty and Gregg came in second. Congratulations to the mixed winners Andy Burgess and Amara Aston. Second in the mixed was Nikki Waterworth and Michael O’Brien. Longest Men’s drive was Jason Bacon – it was awesome! Longest Ladies drive was Amara Aston. On the 8th M&D Auto sponsored hole for nearest the pin on the second shot, to the men, Brendan Barker (ball in the hole) and for the ladies Loraine Evans.

Run Downs went to Ron Batterham and Scott Constable, Ted Bobby and Casey Leotta, Chris Binge and Garry Kirby, Alan Birnell and Coen Cook and finally Victor and Jacob from M&D Auto.

It really was a massive day for the Club and the Players and a big thank you to M&D Auto.
