On Saturday the 28th of February members and visitors played in the biennial Apple and Grape Cup. This is a popular event, and a big field of 77 players braved the windy conditions all vying for the prestigious Cup and Jackets. A good contingent of visitors from as far away as Maryborough, Bribie Island, Beerwah and Wantima came up to enjoy the fresh mountainous air and the test themselves on the best greens around. The single stroke event was generously sponsored by Dale from Crisp Coaches of Stanthorpe and we thank them for their sponsorship.

The men’s winner with an amazing 62 nett was stalwart ‘down the middle hitter’ Viv Thouard. Viv played with some of the biggest hitters in the club so it would have been an interesting group. Coming in second place with an almost as amazing 65 nett was Ted Bobby. Bad luck Ted – this score would probably have won on any other day. Men’s pin shots went to Trevor Evans (Beerwah GC) on 3, Chook Hendry on 12 and Brendan McMillan on 17. Some great approaches were won by Luke Brunckhorst on 1/10 (nearly in the hole), Scott Constable on 5/14 (also nearly in the hole) and Kevin Rowling on 9/18.

Ladies' winner was Sandra Ellis with a great nett score of 70 and runner-up was Mandy Benussi with a very good 72 nett. Ladies pin shots went to Mandy Benussi on 12 and Sandra Ellis on 17. Approach shots were collected by Trish Fittock (2/11) and Deb Joyce (7/16).

Congratulations to all our winners and to everyone who participated in the day. There is no competition next Saturday due to the Apple and Grape Festival but next Friday is the Apple and Grape 2 ball Ambrose sponsored by Crisps Coaches of Warwick.
