The end of month golf event at Stanthorpe was the medley 4BBB stableford sponsored by Jamworks Gourmet Foods and the club thanks them for the prizes supplied. Several groups familiar with Jamworks indicated their intention to win and take home the goodies on offer, indicating that competition could be fairly intense.
Best score of the day came from the team of Lyle Bryant and Barry Hughes with a very good score of 47 points. They combined well and had only one ‘bad hole’ of one point. Mainstay of the team was Hughes who recorded a straight back nine of 24 points to add to the front nine of 23 points. Playing partner, Bryant, added to the score when needed, each time adding three points to the tally.
In the same group as the winners was the team of Scott Constable and Aaron Simmers who returned a final score of 44 points to claim runner up rights. They managed to push the winners all the way but a dropped shot here and there made the difference in the end. They ended up with 22 points out and 22 points back.
Four groups on a score of 42 points entitled each to a run down. These teams included Lyn and Trevor Ludlow, Travis Burton and Hayden Smith, Tom Page and Wes Smith and Nikki Waterworth and Mick O’Brien.
From the club’s recent AGM, there are several changes to the committee. Stephen Kay has stepped down from the President’s position and Richard Reardon ended his role as club Captain. Both members are thanked for their input and leadership over their term of office and credit to both for a task well done. We are fortunate in having Len Leigh step in for Stephen and Brendan Barker taking over the role of club Captain.
Next Saturday is the September monthly medal and putting competitions. There are only two medal events left in the year for players to qualify for the Medal of Medallists event in November. Tee off 11.00am and the time sheet is on the board at the club.
