Saturday 29 July, the last Saturday of the month was a 2 person ambrose event at the Stanthorpe Golf Club. A very good field of members and visitors to contest the day sponsored by Australian Vinegar, thanks to member Ian Henderson. Appreciation also for the ball supplied to each player on the day. A glorious almost summer conditions for players in the afternoon with some players enjoying the heat and others wilting.
The winning team was Ron Batterham and Scott Constable who needed only 69 hits for the round, 3 under par for a nett 63 ½. When asked about their success, team leader Batterham said he was able to keep playing partner, Constable, focused on the game and so a good round was had.
In second place was the team of Danny Folkers and Josh Anderson who were two shots back from the winners. They had a good front nine, as did the winners, but a couple of lapses on the back nine did not help. In the run down, Anthony Marino and K. Knight took the honours.
The accurate drive award at the Australian Vinegar sponsored 18th hole for the player who was closest to a line down the centre of the fairway was won by players in the same group. Mark McCosker ended his drive closest to the line for the men and Linda Kelly was only centimetres away for the ladies. Important to note that the prize was not for the longest drive, rather the nearest to the line.
Pin shots and pro-pins were rewarded with some Australian Vinegar products with Kylie and Mei Bell for the ladies at 12 and 17 and Terry Roser, Pickers and B. Taege for the men at 3, 12 and 17. Bro-pins were claimed by Rod Werner at 1/10, Darryl Boekholt at 5/14 and B, Taege at 9/18. Birdies nest was on hole 3 and was won by the winning team, Ron Batterham and Scott Constable who carded a birdie two at the par three hole.
A reminder to all golfers, members and social players, of the Hellow Yellow day on August 27, a three person ambrose which is in aid of the Stanthorpe Cancer Support Group. All proceeds raised on the day will be donated to this group, so money raised will be used in the district. Nominate a team of three players at the club.
For club members, next Saturday will be the August monthly medal and putting competition, another chance to qualify for the Medal of Medallists in Novenber. Sponsors for the day is Stanthorpe Newsagency. The time sheet for the event is also on the board at the club.
