It was a full two days of golf at Stanthorpe on the long weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May which saw capacity fields compete on both days. Saturday’s event was a 4BBB stableford, the day sponsored by Biz and Jeff Ihle from Kilcoy and Sunday’s event being a three person ambrose sponsored by Warwick Black Toyota, courtesy of Rob Reeves. The club is very thankful for the sponsorship from both parties and in particular, their continued sponsorship of these two days in the golfing programme.

Especially welcome were the visitors, a large group of members from the Kilcoy who travel to Stanthorpe for this weekend and the to the members from Black Toyota as well as the family members of Rob Reeves, both groups are always welcome and we hope they had a good time in Stanthorpe.

Saturday’s 4BBB event got under way with a shot gun start at noon with high expectations from all teams. Plenty of cheering coming from most parts of the course as birdies or eagles were recorded. In the end, it was a team from Kilcoy proving successful with Alex Wright and Dave Wright claiming bragging rights for the day. Local pride was restored somewhat with the team of Brad Silver and Filomena Silver claiming runner up on the day.

Sunday’s ambrose event saw some 90 players taking to the course for the event which also began with a shot gun start, this time at 9.00 am. Playing in groups of 6 people sometimes can be a bit slow, but the field progressed steadily throughout the day. The forecast rainy day thankfully did not arrive, although a fair shower after a couple of hours was a bit of a worry. The heavy clouds did not last long and everyone got on with the day.

Again, bragging right went to the Kilcoy boys with the team of Alan Kropp, Larsen Kuhn and Justin Zische having the best score on the day, a nett 58 for first place. A very close second to the local team of Richard Reardon, Brad Silver and Filomena Siver who were a mere fraction away, one putt only. In third place was the local team of Nathan Stibbard, David Burgess and Andy Burgess, just slightly behind the second team.

Playing off the stick for the gross score was the team of noted long hitters, Matt Burgess, Brendon Barker and Jason Bacon who returned a score of 61, eleven under par for their round. Leading the ladies only teams was Racheal Hendry, Mandy Benussi and Lyn Ludlow.

Plenty of other prizes on both days with pin shots and approaches on offer and congratulations to all who managed to take a prize. The final activity for the weekend was the multi-draw raffle held after the final presentation. Quite a few happy faces walking out the door with a prize in hand.

While all the players enjoyed the days of golf, the club would also like to thank the many local members who volunteered their time in making the weekend successful. There were a large number involved, setting the fields, running the drinks, working over the BBQ which all aids for the smooth running of both days.

It was also very pleasing to hear the good comments made by the visitors on how well the course was presented on both days of golf, so a big commendation to the club’s greenkeeper, Bill, and his helpers for the work around the course.

Getting back to normal golf days at the club, Saturday 11 May is the start of the club championships which will run over three weekends. First round is self selected groups and the day is sponsored by The Mobile Golf. Go online to nominate.
