Stanthorpe golfers played their last competition for 2023 last Saturday, the event being a 4BBB stableford sponsord by the ‘Hogmanay Howlers’ namely Greg Fraser, Mike McAuliffe and Keith McBarnett and the club thanks them for the day and their attendance at the presentation. A good field turned out for the day and included visitors from Coriki and Redland Bay Golf Clubs.
Some good scores were returned and in the end it was the Jones team that prevailed over the Stuarts. Keith and Helen Jones score of 44 points edged out David and Lisa Stuart on the same score after the count back was used. Two teams to feature in the run down were Ivan Juriss and Len Leigh with 42 points then Michael Thompson and Tod Beckett on 41 points.
Nearest to pins for men awarded to Jason Bacon at 3 and Rod Werner at 12. Lisa Stuart collected ladies NTP at 12 and the approach at 14. Other approaches were won by Michael Lucas (visitor) at 1/10, Tod Beckett at 5/14 and Richard Reardon at 9/18.
Highlight of the day came from Brendon Barker with an eagle at the par 5 sixth hole. While most players need 5 of more strokes for this hole, Brendon managed to need only two hits to get in the hole and record an albatross. His drive was a little bit off line and finished in the trees. He selected a 4 iron, hit a low running shot through all the trees, over the drainage ditch then up to the green with a curving roll and into the hole. A great result.
Next Saturday, Jan 6, is the start of the 2024 year of golf and also the start of the year long ‘Golfer of the Year’ competition. The day’s event is a stroke, the January monthly medal with the winner qualifying for Medal of Medallist in November. Time sheet is available on line.
