A change to the usual competition format played last Saturday at Stanthorpe was a 2 person ambrose event sponsored by M & D Auto Parts who have continued their many years of sponsorship at the club. Appreciation is extended to both Judy Spiller and Mick Spiller of M & Auto Parts for the day, and to Judy for presenting the prizes on the day. The club also thanks their associated sponsors on the day, many of whom played in the day’s competition.

Heavy rain in the days prior to the event cast some doubt on the day. Club greenkeeper, Bill Pyne, and those who assisted him did a great job in getting the course into a playable shape for the day to proceed.

Brendan Barker and Nigel Eldridge had the best score on the day to take the top prize. Not far behind was David Burgess and Andrew Burgess for runner up, a half shot away.

The team of Kay Webb and Marie Cook won the ladies division with Nikki Waterworth and Helen Jones in second place.

Two run downs on offer, the first going to Darryl Boekholt and Max Hunter, the second to Barry Jones and Matt Burgess.

The special prize at the M & D 8th hole was won by David Aitken for the men and Kay Webb for the ladies. Pin shots claimed by Matt Burgess at 3, Barry Hughes at 12 and Keith Jones at 17. Marie Cook collected the ladies’ pin at 12 and 17 and also the ladies’ long drive. Pro-pins went to Barry Jones at 1/10, Brendan Barker at 5/14 and Max Hunter was in close at 9/18. Men’s long drive went to Brendan Barker.

The NAGA encouragement award went Sean and Bryce and full credit to them for getting through the round.

M & D Auto Parts and their associated sponsors also provided a multi-draw raffle, the draw being conducted by Victor Johnstone and prizes handed out by Judy. Victor did a great job with the prizes being distributed through the crowd and some very happy faces at the end.

After such a good day, golfers are back to a stableford next Saturday with play for the Peirce Trophy, sponsored by the Peirce family. This is a mixed event and players who do not have a partner will play a single stableford. Time sheet is at the club.
